Pianist, Cyrus Chesnut celebrates his 50th birthday tour at Mount Vernon Country Club on Wednesday, May 29th with special guest, vibraphonist, Stefon Harris.  The Baltimore born pianist's roots are clearly based in the Church, as he began playing at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church at the early age of 6, but by 9 was studying classical music at Peabody Institute and in 1985, earned a degree in jazz composition and arranging from the renowned Berklee College of Music.  Chesnut was awarded the Eubie Blake Fellowship, the Quincy Jones Scholarship and the Oscar Peterson Scholarship.  Having spent time during the eighties and early nineties with Jon Hendricks, Wynton Marsalis, Terrence Blanchard and the great Betty Carter, the pianist came into his own voice and approach to the music.  Since then, Chesnut has recorded several well regarded dates and been a first call musician for the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Freddy Cole, Bette Midler and including a 1996 US tour with opera diva, Kathleen Battle.  During the nineties, Cyrus also met up with mallot master Stefon Harris

Harris, who will perform on vibes and marimba, has brought his Blackout group to Mount Vernon several times and played to a sold out house each show.  Stefon has a BM and MM in Jazz Performance from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, has three Grammy nominations and numerous awards and a number of Artist in Residences.  Besides touring with his Blackout Group, Harris has worked with the late, great, Joe Henderson, Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Kurt Elling and of course, the celebrated, Cyrus Chesnut
The Los Angeles Times said of Harris, "One of the most important young artists in Jazz."  To complete the group, the pianist and vibraphonist are joined by bassist, Eric Wheeler and drummer, Evan Sherman.  This is a "do not miss" concert.

As usual a delicious buffet dinner will precede the concert beginning at 6:00 pm.  The concert will start at 8:00 pm.  The price for dinner and concert is $49.95 per person, plus tax and gratuity.  Concert only seating is available for $24.00.
