People respond to the reality of a warming planet in many ways, depending upon their perception of a threat to their well-being.  At the personal level, we alter our purchases and our habits to reflect our perceptions of risk.  Cities like Denver, Lakewood, and Golden adopt varying strategies to a livable and sustainable future.  Corporations, the military, and insurance companies respond with measures of adaptation and mitigation.  Many choices confront us whether we act individually, corporately, or societally (or not at all) to change the rules and future realities. This presentation, the second on a climate-related topic by Phil Nelson, is tailored to the non-scientist.  A lively discussion is anticipated.

Tuesday, April 25th (click here to register)
5:30 - 7:00 pm To register, call the receptionist 303/526-0616. $20 includes dinner.

Flammulated Owls are common in the mountain forests of the western United States but are rarely seen due to their small size and nocturnal nature. Recent studies have made great leaps in our understanding of this owl's life history, but more research is needed to understand the needs of the species in the context of human development and climate change. Speakers Max Ciaglo and Ross Calhoun are based in Boulder. They both majored in ecology and began working with Dr. Brian Linkhart on his demographic study of the Flammulated Owl, the longest-running and most extensive study of the species to date. Over the next four years, the duo continued to pursue their fervor for ornithological field work by establishing their own independent project studying the migration of the Flammulated Owl. Max and Ross, are currently working with UC Denver to complete their study.

WHAT IS A WELLNESS PROGRAM?
• Wellness is a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential
• Wellness is multi-dimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyle, mental and spiritual well-being and the environment
• Wellness is positive and affirming
The definition of wellness, long used by the National Wellness Institute, is consistent with these tenets. “Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence.” It is the integration of the six interactive dimensions that continually influence and balance each other and create overall wellness. The dimensions of wellness: Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Environmental, Social.
