Health Of The Planet ~ Who are the climate scientists?
Wednesday, November 15th
6:00 - 7:00 pm
Tracking the health of the planet requires the contributions of biologists, oceanographers, meteorologists, and instrument designers, each working in their sphere of interest. We will meet some of the people who measure carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, water droplets and ice particles in clouds, the dieback of coastal forests and coral reefs, heat waves and cold spells, glacier retreat, and the melting of polar ice. Although their results may not make the news, a mosaic of the impacts of a warming planet emerges. This presentation, the first of a series on climate-related topics, is tailored to the non-scientist and will be followed by dinner and discussion in the lounge. Phil Nelson, now retired from a research career in oil and gas and mineral exploration, devotes much of his volunteer time to Citizens Climate Lobby and gives presentations on extreme weather events to community groups in the Denver west metro area. He also pulls invasive weeds in Mount Vernon, but that’s another story. Make a reservation and stay for dinner afterwards to continue the conversation!
